Thank you to all of the members who came to the AGM on Thursday, April 30. It was a busy meeting, as we reviewed our 2025 activities and looked ahead to the upcoming year.
The Honourable Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, opened the meeting with some remarks. It was gratifying to hear him note that we have a powerhouse industry, but that in order for us to grow, it will require investment from the government. He also repeated Premier Ford’s goal of having a $5 billion film and television sector in the province – a goal we will all need to work together to reach.
Prior to the AGM, the FilmOntario Board participated in a roundtable with Minister Cho and senior staff, where the Board provided feedback and input to the Minister for his trip to Los Angeles, and discussed current challenges and opportunities in the industry. FilmOntario was also pleased to host a dinner during the LA trip for a selection of LA contacts and members who were able to make the trip down for the event. Both events provided valuable networking and information-sharing opportunities.
During the business portion of the GAM, we had the chance to present members with the results of the study FilmOntario undertook over the past year examining the competitiveness of Ontario as a filming jurisdiction. While Ontario continues to be a world-class and attractive jurisdiction, there is always work to be done to improve this position. The Board is committed to putting together tax credit proposals that will make Ontario more competitive compared to both Canadian and international jurisdictions.
We also had the opportunity to thank outgoing Director Alistair Hepburn, who left the Board earlier this year to take up a new position in the industry. Members gave a warm welcome to new Director Gail Haupert (ACTRA Toronto), who has been appointed to serve the remainder of Alistair’s term. Welcome Gail!
Following the conclusion of our corporate business, members and invited guests enjoyed a networking reception on the 2nd Floor of the Storys building.
Thank you to IATSE 667 member Jackie Brown (Instagram: jackiebrownphotography) who captured the event with her wonderful photography. You can see a selection of photos below:
Members who weren’t able to attend the meeting should check their member updates for a link to the year in review document and a recording of the meeting.
We wish all of our members a busy and safe summer, and look forward to working with you all on the continued success of our industry.
