Ontario Green Screen (OGS), with support from FilmOntario and the other 26 organizations that make up the Advisory Committee, was pleased to support the Toronto edition of the Sustainable Production Forum (SPF) again this year. The event took place on September 23 in the CBC Atrium.
Managing Director Cynthia Lynch, who is currently serving as OGS industry co-chair, was pleased to give opening remarks on behalf of OGS. The day kicked off with a powerful keynote entitled “A Storyteller’s Quest: Making the Invisible, Visible” by Ziya Tong of Propaganda Productions.
Panel topics throughout the day included the launch of Green Frame, the contributions of studios and broadcasters to sustainability, and how art departments can be re-thought to be more sustainable. OGS Project Manager AnaLaura Giacomel also contributed an Idea Boost, highlighting the OGS grid tie-in map and the new regionally-specific waste-sorting signage.
Throughout the day SPF participants also had the chance to visit various booths, take a test drive in an EV, tour the CBC Kids’ Studio, and participate in hands-on workshops on topics such as Carbon Calculation and Budgeting for Sustainability.
The day wrapped up with a Fireside Chat, sponsored by OGS, which featured producer Mary Ann Waterhouse in conversation with Louise Pollard, highlighting Mary Ann’s recent sustainability successes on a Netflix projects. Mary Ann also talked about this project in the July 2024 OGS Community Meeting. Following the Chat, SPF attendees had a chance to mingle and network at a reception.
SPF attendees this year also included students from Humber College and participants in Amazon’s Sustainability Coordinators program. It was great to see so many of the next generation of industry professionals showing such keen interest in sustainability.
The 2024 Virtual Edition of the Sustainable Production Forum will take place on October 23, 2024. If you are interested in participating, tickets are available here.
